Waters Edge June 9, 2008 ARC Meeting.
Present were: Linda Giannini, Jose Gutman, Joe Mauro, Jim McCormick, and Mike Zaremba.
Mike Zaremba began with a review of the Boca Winds Board Meeting:
Security – Sheriffs patrol is ticketing speeders in the neighborhood, and mentioned increase teenager activity. As an example, May 14, Sheriff removed teenagers from pool area for misbehavior.
Beautification Committee – Replace 1 dead palm tree at East Entrance. Time to choose Summer Annuals.
West Boca Community Council – South County Regional Park will have the movie Grease, June 20 at 8:30 PM. July 4 Celebration will feature Private Stock Band performing hits from 1940 to present and the fireworks display will follow at dark. Shakespeare Festival will be presented July 10, 13, 17, 20, 24, and 27.
No final decision yet on the extension of University or Riverside Roads.
Pool Area Security – At the May meeting the Board voted to hire a security guard to patrol both pool areas. Arrow Security was hired for the (no school) summer months 7 days a week from 11 AM to 6PM. The Sheriff patrol will be adjusted to start at 6PM due to longer daylight hours during the summer.
Landscaping Entrance Monuments – A committee formed to review the monument issues determined that costs to re-landscape should be based upon number of monuments and size of entrances beds in each neighborhood. Waters Edge and Waterways are the only ones that have NOT been re-landscaped and should be done next. The amount does not include maintenance items (power washing, painting, etc), or improvement or changes to the monument itself (new lettering, changing appearance, etc) with a rotation of a 5 year schedule. Waters Edge Estates was approved not to exceed $4,500, and Waters Edge Enclave will be approved for the same amount in 2009. Waterways 4 monuments were approved for $8,000 re-landscaping, and another $8,000 of capital improvement to the 4 monuments totaling $16,000 (or $2,000 + $2,000 per monument).
Capital Improvement – Discussion to light the secondary parking lot at the Town Hall for $5,944. by W.J.T. Electric was approved. Heating the Town Hall pool was voted down unanimously. The water lines, lack of electric line, maintenance, and price of units prohibit the justification of heating a second pool for the community at this time.
Maintenance of Abandoned Property – Authorization was given to the Management Company to correct violation and improve the appearance of an abandoned house on Collington Drive .
New Entrance Wall – a motion was presented to improve the look of the backs of the new main entrance walls with landscaping was not approved due to a 3 for / 3 against vote.
Account Balance Report – Past due delinquencies are increasing.
There was no request for review to the Waters Edge Architectural Committee for June.
The ARC discussed and selected the summer annuals for our monuments. Caladiums were selected for the Enclave and Pentas were selected for the Estates. We finalized the plans to re-landscape our Estates Entrance. We will have some new palms, shrubs, lights, and plants giving the ‘old’ entrance a ‘new’ look. Linda Giannini will supervise and coordinate the work with CMC Management which should start before the end of the month and be completed by early July. The re-landscaping of the Enclaves Entrance should be scheduled for the 2009 year.
We finally discussed the fact that school is out and there are the same persistent speeders in our neighborhood. We discussed options from confronting the individuals to purchasing speed bumps. The speed limit is 20 MPH on our residential streets and 30 MPH on Shorewinds. Nothing was decided and hopefully the few will slow down before it becomes a real problem.
Our next Neighborhood meeting will be July 14, at 7 PM. If you want your voice heard please plan on attending.
Have a Safe Summer,
Mike Zaremba
