At the most recent board meeting (1/07), the HOA Board of Directors was asked if they would endorse a political candidate. The decision was made to have each subdivision discuss the matter with their ARC and vote accordingly at the next HOA Board meeting.
All details aside, I feel it is inappropriate for the HOA board to promote any public position respective to any political candidate (positive or negative). Once precedents is established, how many more times will the Board be asked to endorse a candidate? Again, this is not about the specific situation, or the candidate (As I would most likely support the candidate), but about the position of our HOA Board endorsing any candidate.
I am bringing this to the communities attention requesting feedback, as the community should utilize their right to voice their opinions.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

I agree. As a board member i feel that when it comes to politics we should stay out of it. We need to know our limits. If we promote someone for any position, Where does it end.

As a Regency Place Chairperson I did discuss the matter with the Regency Place ARC members. I did not believe I should vote on an issue like this without input from them. It was unanimous we should not endorse any person for any political position. We felt this was not in the scope of an HOA and we should not set precedence. The ARC had several reasons why not to endorse a candidate and speaking as a representative I am glad to say I do communicate with them about the issues which arise on the main board to get feedback.

Waters Edge ARC members discussed having the Boca Winds Board endorsing someone for Political Office, including Frank Barbieri for Palm Beach School Board, and the vote was unanimously (7-0) against this endorsement and/or making any political endorsement. It is not within the scope of a 'Homeowners Association' to make these political endorsements.

It was good to see the majority of the community favors not getting involved. The attorney is right even though there is no statute prohibiting an HOA from doing this when you start where does it end. It was good to see the board went further and decided not to permit a candidate to come and speak at Town Hall.
